In the small club of Heritage graduates who have played college sports, Lauren Hoffman is one if the most recent. Lauren plays for the IPFW Mastodons volleyball team. She has enjoyed her experience thus far, and hopes to continue the love for the game for the remainder of her collegiate career. When asked what some of the differences between the two levels of volleyball, she named numerous differences. “In high school, I used to think that my life was volleyball, but in college it goes to a whole new level. We practice or workout more than 15 hours a week, and on the weekend, we meet and tour with recruits.” She tells of how sports take over her life in college way more than it did in high school. When describing the in-game differences, she says, “The speed of the game changes. You have to train your mind to work even faster during the game.” She continued, “In high school, you can consider your coach as a friend, but in college your coach is your ‘boss’.” Even with an all new team and a new environment Lauren is having a great time playing the sport she loves. A love for the game you play is so important, and Lauren truly shows this trait.
