The Heritage boys soccer team traveled to Jay County on August 20th to take on the other Patriots in the ACAC to open up their season. This was Heritage’s first conference match up of the season. It was an intense game from start to finish. The opening conference game is crucial as both teams were looking to start off strong. One loss in the ACAC conference seriously reduces the chances for a team to compete for a conference championship.
Heritage played well overall but struggled to score. The first half was filled with chances, but Jay County held strong and did not concede. At the half the score remained 0-0.
In the second half, Heritage came out with a vengeance and was hunting for the go-ahead goal. Moments after the half time whistle, Heritage pushed the ball up the field quickly, making crisp and precise passes. The ball eventually landed at the feet of sophomore midfielder Zay Ya who struck it home to make the score 1-0.
Heritage remained in control for the remainder of the game. The final score of 1-0 demonstrated the team’s toughness down the stretch, and Heritage walked away with a key conference victory. They play again Thursday, the 27th, at Garrett.
