The Boys soccer team took their show on the road last night against the Garrett Railroaders. The Patriots’ Junior Varsity won their second straight game of the season. The Varsity Boys, on the other hand, couldn’t find the back, and suffered a tough defeat.
The final score 3-0 does not tell the full story. The Railroaders scored a fine goal around the 20th minute making it 1-0. After the early strike the patriots held firm in a physical back and forth game. The intensity each team played with portrayed that of a conference game. Though Garrett left the conference in 2014, the animosity between the two schools remains.
At halftime the score remained 1-0 through a multitude of goal scoring opportunities for the Patriots. Each team took shot after shot and made precise passes, but couldn’t find the goal.
The Patriots continued their hard play out of the half but again struggled to score. The scoreboard read 1-0 with 10 minutes to go. That was the same time that team captain Lucas Sheumann went down with a head injury. He left the game and did not return. After the Patriots leader went down, confidence was diminished. The Railroaders struck twice immediately after Scheumann went down resulting in a final score of 3-0.
The Patriots play again at home against the Wayne Generals to kick off a three game week on Monday, August 31st.
