The Heritage football team made the trek to Burne on Friday, Sept. 11, to take on the South Adams Starfires. The game was a low scoring battle, with a final score of 7-0. The lone touchdown was scored in the 4th quarter on a 4 yard run by Justyn Hart of Heritage. Hart tallied 152 total yards with 142 on the ground and caught a pass for 10 yards. Patriot quarterback Walter Knapke threw only 5 passes and completed 4 of them for 55 yards.
The defense played especially well, shutting out the Starfires and limiting them to a meager 133 total yards. Zach White made a shining play in the defensive effort, as he intercepted a pass just before halftime, returning it 32 yards before being tackled near midfield. Senior Captain Ryan Gregory said, “It was a great defensive battle. Our defense played a great game stopping their backs, and our offense got the job done to get the win.”
The Patriots will look to improve to 2-1 in conference play on Sept. 18 when they travel to Adams Central and take on a very good Flying Jets team. When asked about the upcoming game at Adams Central, Gregory said, “Adams Central is a very experienced team this year. We will have to be focused and be ready for a dogfight on Friday.”
