Multiple Teams · Volleyball Stuns the Leo Lions

On Thursday night, the varsity volleyball team had an amazing game, beating the rival to the north, the Leo Lions. The Lions were undefeated and ranked 7th in the state in IHSAA Class 3A until they stepped on the floor of the Heritage Patriots. The Lady Pats led an unblemished charge, defeating Leo in three straight games, 25-22, 25-15, and 26-24.

Junior Grace Castleman reflected on the victory against the Lions saying, “It was the most fun and most memorable game of my life. I will remember it for the rest of my life.”

Coach Walter said, “Last night was a night where every player on our team played a huge role in the win. The energy from everyone on the team and in the crowd was amazing. Beating any undefeated team, especially Leo, ranked 7th is an amazing feat. Our team turned the corner and became a team. They now know they can compete with anyone.”

Erica Renninger, Grace Castleman, and Taylor Zelt all had one ace. Grace also contributed 25 assists, and Alivia Beard and Taylor Zelt each had three blocks. Renninger also had 13 digs, and Taylor Jacquay had 14 kills.

The team is now 12-5, and they look to continue their success on Tuesday, Sept. 12, as Wayne visits Heritage.
