Girls Varsity Golf · Inaugural Girls Golf Season Concludes

The inaugural girls golf season at Heritage came to a close on Monday, as the team completed play in the sectional. After the match was originally scheduled for Saturday and canceled due to rain, the ladies were finally able to hit the links on Monday to compete in the event. Thirteen teams strolled the fairways of Timber Ridge Golf Course in Bluffton to compete for the sectional crown.

The Lady Patriots were led by Karlee Fackler and Sidnie Bienz, each of them shooting an even 100. Alexa Zelt came home with a 104, and Abby Sheehan and Brittany May tallied scores of 108 and 111, respectively. Coach Amanda Minchski said of the team’s play, “I was pleased with our overall performance throughout the season as well as during sectional play. Monday, I thought the girls showed great composure through the grueling 18 hole sectional event. We struggled in our first nine holes, shooting 215, but we came back and scored a 197 for the second nine.”

Homestead took the trophy, with a total team score of 305, dominating the competition, as the second place team – Bellmont – trailed 44 strokes behind at 349. Heritage came in 7th at 412, ahead of South Adams, Wayne, Adams Central, Bluffton, New Haven, and South Side.

After completing a 9-0 regular season, the ladies took home the ACAC regular season title, then finishing 3rd in the ACAC tournament. In regard to the season as a whole, Minchski stated, “Overall it was a great first season. The team learned a lot about golf, and they also gained loads of experience. I have great hope and high expectations for that group of girls and the program moving forward into future seasons.”

Congratulations to this team for representing Heritage extremely well in their first season.
