On Thursday evening, the varsity volleyball team took home the ACAC crown, after wins against both Woodlan and South Adams. They had defeated Southern Wells on Tuesday in order to advance to the semifinal matchup with Woodlan.
In the Woodlan game, the ladies won with scores of 25 to 13 and 25 to 15. After this win, they advanced to the Championship game with South Adams. The team was looking for redemption in this game, because of a loss during regular season play prior to the ACAC tournament. The team earned its redemption with scores of 25 to 15 and 25 to 16.
Taylor Jacquay led in the Woodlan game with 13 kills, while Grace Castleman contributed with 2 aces and 20 assists. Alivia Beard also added 2 blocks, and Erica Renninger had 16 digs.
In the championship matchup with South Adams, Maggie Castleman led with 10 kills and 12 digs, and two aces, while Ashley Luginbill and Grace Castleman also had 2 aces. Taylor Zelt and Alivia Beard each had 3 blocks, and Grace Castleman was a helper with 20 assists.
At the end of the game, the Patriots were awarded the ACAC championship trophy, and freshman Maggie Castleman received the MVP award for the ACAC tournament.
Next week on Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Lady Volleyballers will take on the Eagles of Churubusco for their Senior Night. Make sure to come out and back the Patriots of the red, white, and blue. Then on Oct. 12 the ladies take on Columbia City at Columbia City for their last regular season contest before sectional.
