Multiple Teams · Patriots Stun Lions in Overtime Opener

On Friday night, the boys basketball team traveled to Leo for their regular season opener, and they tamed the Lions in dramatic fashion, winning in overtime by the final score of 41-40. Sophomore, Walter Knapke sank a go-ahead, game-winning layup with 1.3 seconds remaining (pictured above) to steal victory from the Lions’ claws.

Senior Rylie Schane led the Pats in scoring with 17, and junior Abram Beard also scored 14.

Abram Beard connects for 2 of his 14 points.

Senior Rylie Schane drew the ire of the Leo crowd, constantly receiving a chorus of yelling each time the ball was in his hands. He let his play do the talking, as he responded with 17 points.

Senior Malcolm Smith had the eye of the tiger on defense as he squared off with the Lions at mid-court throughout the game, setting the tone with defensive pressure.

The cheerleaders and the visiting Patriot fans went wild as they celebrated with a rousing rendition of “I Believe that We Will Win!”

The team is back in action tomorrow evening, Tuesday, Dec. 6, for a home game with Lakewood Park Christian.
