Girls Varsity Golf · Girls Golf Brings Home ACAC Crown

Back to back!  On Saturday, Sept. 9, the girls golf team won the 2017 ACAC round robin tournament. This year, after winning the regular season championship in 2016, they won both the regular season title and the tournament title.

The ladies won the conference tourney with a team score of 404, defeating South Adams (410) in second place and Southern Wells (430) in third, followed by Jay County, Bluffton, and Adams Central. Seniors, Kate Buuck and Brittany May led the Pats’ charge with score of 98 each, and Abby Sheehan and Alexa Zelt rounded out their top scoring four with rounds of 100 and 108, respectively.

In only the second year in program history, the girls are showing signs of dominance and a dynasty in the making.  Last year the Heritage Athletic department decided to throw together a squad for girl’s golf and see how far they could take it.  After a group of girls decided to join, they quickly meshed as a team and found out they had some real skill.  At first the girl’s golf team was not taken very seriously, but once the victories started to pile up, people quickly realized that they indeed were no joke.

In their inaugural season they jumped out to a stellar record of 9-0, before falling in sectionals.  This year has gone similarly, only this time the girls are 15-0, and they have won the ACAC tournament championship.  Senior leader, Katie Buuck said, “It felt good to see our hard work payoff.”

Next up is the sectional tournament, and the girls are looking to advance as a team.  Senior, Brittany May spoke of preparing for sectional play, “We went out and played the sectional course just to check it out.”  As sectionals approach, the girls will be working on every facet of their games in order to perform at the highest level possible. The sectionals will be on Saturday, Sept. 16.
